Welcome back to Hāpara 

Please note: This pre-setup guide is for Hāpara purchases of Teacher Dashboard, Highlights, and Workspace. 

Google Workspace settings

Log into your school domain Google Admin Console as the Super Administrator to configure the settings highlighted in the steps below:

Step 1a. Install Hāpara Marketplace App

1. Navigate to the Hāpara Marketplace app.
2. Click the blue 'Admin Install' button.
   
3. Click 'Continue' in the 'Admin lnstall' window.
   
4. You will be asked to give the Hāpara Marketplace app access to your domain’s data. After reading our Terms of Service, tick the checkbox to ensure the app is installed for 'Everyone at your organisation' (students and teachers) and click 'Finish.'
   
   REMEMBER: If teacher and student accounts are in different Google domains, then you should complete the steps listed above for each teacher and student domain.
   

Once installed, navigate to Google Workspace Marketplace apps and  'Hāpara' should be listed as an app on your domain.

NOTE: If you find that the install button is greyed out, this could indicate that the Hapara app was not deleted from your domain when Hapara was last deactivated.

It is important to check and regrant access to the Marketplace app if you find this to be the case.

Regrant access to the Hapara Marketplace app

1. Log in to the G-Suite Admin Console.
2. Select "Apps".
3. Select "Marketplace Apps".
4. Select the "View organizational units and groups" link directly under the User Access heading.
5. Verify that Hapara is installed and is "On for Everyone" OR at the very least, installed to each Organizational Unit that Hapara may communicate with - teachers, students, administrative and service accounts etc.
6. Click into the Hapara app.

If Data Access status is 'Revoked' in Red, click "Grant access" on the right hand side.
Data Access should be 'granted' in green.

Step 1b. Confirm Hāpara as a trusted app

NOTE: As of October 1, 2023, the Hāpara Marketplace app should be added as a trusted app in the Google Admin Console.

1. Navigate to  Security > Access and data control > API controls.
2. Under App access control, click 'Manage Third-Party App Access'.
3. Click 'Add app' and then 'Client ID'.
4. Copy the following Client ID and paste into search field and click 'Search': 283337183316.apps.googleusercontent.com
5. Hover over the Hāpara App and click 'Select' on the right.
6. Check the listed Client ID and click 'Select'.
7. Leave the top-level organization unit selected. Or to apply to specific organizational units, click Select org units > Include organizations, then select specific organizational units.
8. Click 'Continue'. 
9. Choose 'Trusted' and click 'Continue'.
10. Click 'Finish'.
11. Click 'Confirm'.

Hāpara will now be listed on the top line of your Configured apps.

Step 2. Install Highlights extension 

By force-installing the Hāpara Highlights extension to the student's organizational unit (OU) in your Google domain, student users will automatically have the Hāpara Highlights extension installed to their Chrome browsers. The Highlights extension will also be inherited automatically by any student users who are added to the organizational unit in the future.

The following must be actioned by a Google Super Administrator.

1. Open the Google Admin Console.
2. Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions.
3. Click 'Users & browsers'.
4. Select your student OU/s from the listed organizational units menu.
5. Locate the yellow circle in the bottom right-hand corner of your window, hover over it and click the grid icon 'Add the Chrome app or extension by ID'.
6. From the drop-down menu, select 'From a custom URL'.
   
   
   
7. Add the custom URL and extension ID provided below and click 'Save.'
   

   Extension ID	aceopacgaepdcelohobicpffbbejnfac
   Custom URL	https://extension.hapara.com/extension/updates/domain

   
   NOTE: The custom URL should contain your student domain at the end, eg: https://extension.hapara.com/extension/updates/school.hapara.com
   
   What is my student domain? Your student domain is where your students are set up on your Google Workspace. A simple way to confirm this is the ending of your student email addresses. Eg: in student@school.hapara.com, 'school.hapara.com' is the student domain.
   
   
   
   
8. Set the extension to 'Force install + pin'.
   
   
9. Click 'Save' in the top right-hand corner.

Step 3. Enable Manifest V2 extensions.

To ensure the uninterrupted functionality of Hāpara Highlights we recommend following the instructions provided:

NOTE: Please make sure to repeat the steps below for all organizational units that have the Hāpara Highlights extension pushed out. Sub-organizational units may inherit this setting from the parent organizational units above them.

1. Sign-in to https://admin.google.com as a Google Super Administrator.
   
   
2. Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Settings > User and browser settings.
   Note: We recommend enabling this policy in each Student OU that the Hāpara Highlights Extension is installed. In the screenshot below, we have enabled this at the top OU level, which should cascade down.
   
   
3. Locate and click on the Manifest V2 extension availability setting.
   
   
   
   
4. Select the drop down option Enable Manifest V2 extensions.
   
   
   
5. Click Save.

Step 4. Create a Hāpara Admin Account.

Hāpara requires a user with specific Admin Role permissions (ie., Groups Admin and User Management).

We recommend creating a separate, non-human user, that is not linked to any real person. This avoids potential loss of Hāpara functionality in the event of a human account being suspended or deactivated or having Admin privileges restricted.

First, create a Hāpara Admin User:

1. Open admin.google.com.
2. Navigate to Directory > Users.
3. Click Add new user.
4. Enter Name and email details.
5. Click Manage user’s password, organizational unit and profile photo.
6. Store this user in an Organizational Unit with the Hāpara Marketplace app installed. E.g., staff, faculty, admin, tech.
7. Click Add new user.
8. Click Done.

Next, assign Custom Admin privileges to this new account:

1. Locate the new user you have just created.
2. Under the Admin roles and privileges menu, click ASSIGN ROLES.
3. Assign the roles Groups Admin and User Management.
4. Click Save.

Step 5. URL allowed listings 

We recommend that your school network technician complete this step.

Add the URLs listed HERE to the allowed listings for any firewall, antivirus or web content filtering software enabled on your teacher network to ensure Hāpara functions without issue. If you experience any connectivity issues from inside the school network which are not occurring outside the network while attempting to access Hāpara, it may indicate local network traffic filtering is in place.
