Fix Hāpara login and access errors Follow
This article helps teachers and Hāpara administrators fix common Hāpara sign-in errors, including “not authorized,” “account not recognized,” wrong Google account, old bookmarks, and browser cookie/cache issues.
Who this is for
Teachers and administrators
Summary
Most Hāpara login issues are fixed by opening the correct Hāpara page, signing in with your school Google account only, and clearing old browser sign-in data. Use the section below that matches the error message or issue you see.
Before you start: use the correct Hāpara login page
- For teachers, open app.hapara.com.
- For students using Student Dashboard, open app.hapara.com/student.
- Select Sign in with Google.
- Choose your school-issued Google account.
- Do not use a personal Google account.
If you use a saved bookmark, class link, or dashboard.hapara.com shortcut and it does not work, open app.hapara.com directly instead. After you successfully sign in, delete the old bookmark and create a new one.
Problem: “You are not authorized” or “No access”
What this usually means
Hāpara is opening under a Google account that does not have access, or your school account has not been assigned the correct Hāpara role, class, or school access.
Steps for teachers
- Click Switch account if the option appears.
- Select your school Google account.
- If your personal Google account appears first, sign out of personal Google accounts in Chrome.
- Open a new Chrome window.
- Go to app.hapara.com.
-
Select Sign in with Google.
- Sign in again with your school account.
Steps for administrators
- Confirm the teacher exists in the correct Google Workspace domain.
- Confirm the teacher is included in the correct teacher or admin role group for Hāpara.
- Confirm the teacher is assigned to the correct classes or schools.
- If the teacher recently changed email domains, check Alternative Logins in the Hāpara Admin Console.
- Ask the teacher to try again after account, role, or class updates sync.
Problem: “Account not recognized” or “We can’t find your account”
What this usually means
The email address is not recognized by Hāpara, is not included in current roster data, or belongs to the wrong Google domain.
Steps for teachers
- Check the email address shown on the Google sign-in screen.
-
Confirm it is your school-issued email address.
- Sign out of any personal, previous-school, or non-school Google accounts.
- Open app.hapara.com.
- Sign in again with your school Google account.
Steps for administrators
- Confirm the user exists in Google Workspace.
- Confirm the user is included in the current roster or user sync.
- Check whether the account has been suspended, renamed, moved, or restored.
- Confirm the user’s domain is active in Hāpara.
- Confirm the user has the correct Hāpara role or access.
- If the user was recently added or changed, allow time for the next sync or run the correct roster update.
Problem: Hāpara opens with the wrong Google account
What this usually means
Chrome may be signed into one account, while Google apps are signed into another. This can happen on shared devices or when personal and school Google accounts are both active.
Steps to fix it
- In Chrome, click the profile icon in the top-right corner of the browser window.
- Confirm the active Chrome profile shows your school email address.
- If it does not, switch to your school Chrome profile or add a new Chrome profile for your school account.
- Sign out of personal Google accounts in Gmail, Drive, Classroom, and other Google tabs.
- Close all Chrome windows.
- Reopen Chrome using your school profile.
- Go to app.hapara.com.
- Select Sign in with Google.
- Choose your school account.
Problem: A bookmark or old class link does not work
What this usually means
The saved link may point to a previous year’s class, an archived class, an old Workspace, or an outdated login path.
Steps to fix it
- Do not use the old bookmark or class link.
- Type app.hapara.com directly into the Chrome address bar.
- Sign in with your school Google account.
- Open the class, Workspace, or tool from inside Hāpara.
- Delete the old bookmark.
- Create a new bookmark after you successfully reach the correct Hāpara page.
For students using Student Dashboard
- Go directly to app.hapara.com/student.
- Sign in with the student’s school Google account.
- If Student Dashboard opens, delete the old dashboard.hapara.com shortcut or bookmark.
- Create a new bookmark for app.hapara.com/student.
- If Student Dashboard still does not open, confirm the student is using a school Chrome profile and not a personal Google account.
Problem: Hāpara keeps loading, loops back to sign-in, or shows a blank page
What this usually means
Browser cookies, cached sign-in data, blocked third-party cookies, pop-up settings, or extensions may be preventing Hāpara and Google sign-in from completing.
Steps to clear cache and cookies in Chrome
-
Open Chrome Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security.
- Select Delete browsing data or Clear browsing data.
-
Set the time range to All time.
- Select Cookies and other site data.
- Select Cached images and files.
- Select Hosted app data if it appears.
- Click Delete data or Clear data.
- Close and reopen Chrome.
- Go to app.hapara.com.
- Sign in again with your school Google account.
Steps to allow cookies for Hāpara
- Open Chrome Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security.
- Open Third-party cookies.
-
Add [*.]hapara.com to sites allowed to use third-party cookies.
- Add accounts.google.com if Google sign-in is still blocked.
- Try signing in again.
Try an Incognito window
- Open a new Incognito window.
- Make sure third-party cookies are not blocked in the Incognito window.
- Go to app.hapara.com.
- Sign in with your school Google account.
Problem: app.hapara.com does not open
What this usually means
The browser, network, account session, or browser policy may be blocking Hāpara before sign-in is complete.
Steps to fix it
- Confirm you typed app.hapara.com directly into the Chrome address bar.
- Try the page in a new Chrome window.
- Try the page in an Incognito window.
- Clear cache and cookies.
- Check that pop-ups are allowed for app.hapara.com.
- Ask your IT team to confirm Hāpara is not blocked by your school network, web filter, or browser policy.
Problem: dashboard.hapara.com or a Student Dashboard shortcut does not open
What this usually means
The saved link may be outdated, blocked, or connected to a previous browser session.
Steps to fix it
-
For students, go directly to app.hapara.com/student.
- Sign in with the student’s school Google account.
- If Student Dashboard opens, delete the old dashboard.hapara.com shortcut or bookmark.
- Create a new bookmark for app.hapara.com/student.
- If the student still cannot open Student Dashboard, confirm the student is signed into Chrome with their school account.
