Self-Service Setup - Step 3 Configuring Hāpara Highlights (Monitoring) Follow
Fantastic! You have run through the first 2 steps of setting up the Hāpara Suite for your domain.
Step 3 will help you configure the necessary settings needed to enable the Highlights (Screens) monitoring tool. This tool allows teachers to view students' screens and guide their online browsing.
Note: The Highlights extension needs to be pushed out to the student organizational units for your domain. This allows students to be visible to teachers in Highlights. This step was covered in the Pre-Setup Guide.
1. From the left-side menu bar, click Settings. > Then select Highlights (Screens).
From the Highlights (Screens) page, you will notice that the Enable Highlights toggle is set to 'No' and greyed out.
You will only be able to switch the toggle to 'Yes' once you have run through the next steps to set up the Student Privacy settings
Enable Highlights allows you to display the Highlights tab in teachers' accounts. By keeping this setting toggled to 'No,' the Highlights tab will not be displayed.
2. Scroll slightly down the page to the Student Privacy settings.
Edit the School monitoring hours and School monitoring days to suit your school's or schools' needs.
Recommendation:
We highly recommend that you add your school public IP address.
To add your school IP address/es, click the Edit button under the IP address restrictions option and then enter the necessary IP addresses.
This will ensure that Highlights will function on your school network (or networks).
Once this is done, the extension will only be active on students' profiles when they are on the specified school networks. When on other networks, the extension will not provide details of student activity in the Chrome browser.
It is important to understand the risks for not setting IP restrictions. These are highlighted in the yellow box when there is no IP address inputted.
3. Enable Highlights for your domain by scrolling to the top of the page to the Enable Highlights section and switch the toggle to 'Yes'.
You have now configured the necessary settings to enable Highlights for your domain.
