How to take and manage Snaps in Hāpara Highlights Follow

This article helps teachers take, review and share Snaps of student browsing activity in Hāpara Highlights.

Summary

A Snap creates a record of student browsing activity at a specific point in time. Teachers can take Snaps from Activity Viewer or Class View, review them in Recordings, send feedback to students or email themselves a copy.

Snaps remain available in Hāpara Highlights for seven days.

What a Snap includes

A Snap can include:

  • The class name
  • The student or students associated with the activity
  • The date and time the Snap was taken
  • The teacher's name
  • The URL or document involved
  • A timeline of related browser activity
  • A screenshot when the student's screen is available at the time the Snap is taken

If the student leaves the website or document immediately before the Snap is taken, the screen image may not be available.

Take a Snap from Activity Viewer

  1. Open Hāpara Highlights.
  2. Select your class.
  3. Select Activity Viewer.
  4. Find the website or activity you want to document.
  5. Select the camera icon for that activity.

The Snap is saved automatically to Recordings.

Take a Snap from Class View

  1. Open Class View.
  2. Select Current Screens.
  3. Select the student's screenshot to open a larger view.
  4. Select Take a snap.

View saved Snaps

  1. In Highlights, select Recordings.
  2. Find an item with the type Snap.
  3. Select the Snap to open its details.

Recordings shows information such as the date and time, audience, thumbnail and expiration date for each Snap.

Send feedback from a Snap

  1. Open the Snap from Recordings.
  2. Select Send learner(s) feedback.

  1. Confirm the correct student or students.
  2. Enter your feedback.
  3. Send the feedback.

Keep a Snap for longer than seven days

If you need to retain a Snap beyond its seven-day availability period in Highlights, email yourself a copy.

  1. Open the Snap.
  2. Select Email me a copy.

Additional tips

  • Use Snaps to provide specific formative feedback.
  • Snaps can document examples of positive digital citizenship as well as activity that needs follow-up.
  • Email yourself a copy if the Snap is needed after the seven-day retention period in Highlights.
