Use sections in Hāpara Workspace to group related cards (resources, activities, evidence or rubrics) within the same column.
This helps you break a large unit into smaller chunks (weeks, themes, checkpoints) and makes it easier for students to find what they need.
Why you should use sections in Hāpara Workspaces
Sections are a simple way to organize big or long-running Workspaces.
You can:
• Break a unit into smaller parts (for example, Week 1, Week 2, Assessment)
• Group cards that go together within a column
• Make it easier for students to scan and find the right resources
Note: Any cards that are not assigned to a section always appear at the top of a Workspace, above any sections.
How to create sections in Hāpara Workspaces
Open your Workspace.
Decide where you want to add a section in a column.
-
Click Add section in that column.
Type a name for the section (for example, “Week 1: Introduction” or “Final project”).
Click outside the section name bar, or press Enter, to save the name.
Drag existing cards in that column into the new section as needed.
Tip: Use clear, student-friendly section names so students can quickly understand what each part of the Workspace is for.

What happens to cards in a removed section
- If you delete a section that still has cards in it, those cards are not deleted.
- The cards move back into the un-sectioned area at the top of that column in the Workspace.
Additional tips
- Cards can only be dragged into a section in the same column (you cannot drag a card into a section in a different column).
- You can add as many sections as you need in a Workspace.
- You can copy a section and all of its cards to reuse in the same Workspace or in another Workspace.
- Plan your sections before building a big Workspace (for example: Launch, Pratice, Apply, Assess).
- Keep section names short and consistent (for example, always start with “Lesson” or “Week”).
- After adding sections, quickly scan your Workspace from a student’s point of view to check that the order and names make sense.
- If students say they “can’t find” something, check whether it should be moved into a more obvious section.
