Summary
Students submit work in Hāpara Workspace by opening the task on an evidence card, completing the work and then clicking the Submit button on the card.
Depending on how the card is set up, they can submit attached documents, linked resources or files they add themselves as evidence.
Steps to submit work when there is an attached document
In Hāpara Workspace, the student should open the relevant Workspace and find the evidence card for their task.
The student will then click the document link on the evidence card.
A copy of the document is then created in the student’s Google Drive for them to work on.
The student will then complete their work in the copied Google document.
When they are ready to turn it in, the student should return to the Workspace evidence card and click Submit.
-
After the student clicks Submit:
The document is transferred to the teacher.
-
The student’s permissions on the document will change to comment-only, so they can no longer edit it.
Steps to submit work when there is only a link on the evidence card
In Workspace, the student should open the evidence card for the task.
Next, the student will click the link on the evidence card to open the resource or activity.
The Workspace evidence card is now marked as started for that student.
Once the student has completed the task (for example, finished a quiz, read an article or completed the linked activity), they should return to the evidence card.
The student will then need to click Submit on the evidence card to show they have completed the task.
How students can add and submit their own evidence
Student can also submit their own files or links as evidence, either on cards created by the teacher or on cards they add themselves.
To add and submit student-created evidence on an existing card:
In Workspace, the student should open the evidence card where they need to show their work.
If the teacher has not attached any documents or links, the lstudents will see options to add evidence.
The student attaches their evidence (for example, a Google Doc, Slide, file or link) to the card.
-
When they are ready, the student clicks Submit on the evidence card to turn in their work.
To create a new evidence card and submit learning evidence:
In Workspace, the student should open the appropriate Workspace section.
The student should create a new evidence card (if allowed by the Workspace settings).
They should then add a clear title and description to explain what the evidence shows.
The student will then attach their file(s) or link(s) to the evidence card.
The student will then click Submit on the card when they are finished.
What teachers see after submission
Submitted work is visible on the evidence card for each student.
For attached Google files, the teacher becomes the primary controller of the document and the student’s access is changed to comment-only.
Teachers can then assess, comment on and return work using their usual Workspace workflows.

Additional tips for teachers
- Remind students to check that they have clicked Submit on the evidence card, rather than just closing the document or link.
- If a student does not see a Submit button, check that they opened the evidence from the card first and that they are signed in with their school Google account.
- For activities that happen outside Google Drive (such as an external website or video), submitting the evidence card is how students indicate to the teacher that the task is complete.
- Use clear card titles (for example, “Draft essay,” “Final essay submission,” “Quiz reflection”) so students know exactly which card to submit.
