How students access a Workspace
Students can access their assigned Hāpara Workspaces by logging in to Hāpara Student Dashboard. This online planner organizes a student’s Workspaces, Google Classroom assignments, Google Drive files, class announcements and notifications.
How to access a Workspace:
1. Students should log in to Student Dashboard with their school Google credentials at https://app.hapara.com/student.
2. Students can find their Workspaces by clicking on the Workspaces tab in Student Dashboard. This is located in the menu on the left.
4. They will also see Workspaces listed in the To do tab. This tab shows all of the Workspaces and Google Classroom assignments that are overdue, have upcoming due dates or have no due dates.
What students see in Workspace
In Workspace, students will see columns that have Workspace Cards in them. In this example, they have cards under the Goals, Resources and Evidence columns. This is similar to what teachers see.
Students are also able to see which groups they belong to, as well as their group members. They can email their group members from the Workspace to collaborate on an assignment.
The student view of a Workspace is very similar to the teacher view, with minor differences. One difference is that students do not have tabs at the top of their Workspace like teachers do. Teachers have the following tabs: Workspace, Students & Groups, Activity Summary, Individual Activity. Students do not have these tabs.
How students see grades and feedback
When you assess students' assignments and assessments in Workspace and return it to them with a grade or feedback, students can see those marks both in the Workspace itself and in their Student Dashboard notifications.
Grades and feedback in Workspace
In a Workspace, grades and feedback appear on the assignment’s Workspace Card. In this example, it is marked in green as “Assessed.” It also shows the grade and the teacher’s feedback at the bottom.
Grades and feedback in Student Dashboard
In Student Dashboard, students will see their grades and feedback in the Notifications panel. They can click on the notification to be taken to the Workspace and review the work that was assessed.
How students add their own Workspace Cards
By default, students can add cards to the second and third columns of the Workspace by clicking the + icons at the top or bottom of the columns.
Resource Cards
When students add Resource Cards (in the second column), those cards can be seen by everyone in their group. This is a great way for students to share their research and knowledge with each other.
Evidence Cards
When students add their own Evidence Cards (in the third column), the student and teacher can only see the cards. This is a great feature for giving students choices in how they present their evidence of learning.
Turn off this student option
Teachers can turn this option off when needed. This option is in the left menu of a teacher’s Workspace. Simply switch the toggle to off.
Previewing a Workspace as a student
Teachers can also preview a Workspace from any student's perspective:
1. Open the Workspace you'd like to view as a student.
2. In the left-hand menu, find the Groups header.
3. Expand the group with the student you'd like to view the Workspace as.
4. Click the eye icon next to the student’s name. > This will open a new tab with the student version of the Workspace.
This is especially helpful if you create differentiated cards for different student groups.
