Hāpara Teacher Dashboard gives you visibility into what students are working on in Google Drive — and Student Tiles provide you with this visibility. They allow you to view, access and manage student work all from one convenient place.
In your class Teacher Dashboard, each student has a Student Tile. These Student Tiles show you the recent files that students have worked on, but they do more than just show you the files. The Student Tiles are interactive, so you can use them to view student progress, provide students with feedback and differentiate your instruction.
What do Student Tiles show me?
Each Student Tile displays helpful information to make it easier to manage all the digital work students are doing.
The information you’ll see on a Student Tile is:
- The student’s name
- Colored bars that show you the student’s Teacher Dashboard groups
- A clickable list of recent files the student has worked on
- When the file was most recently updated
Student Tiles also have interactive elements that are helpful in managing student work and quickly seeing more specific details about the file.
When you hover your mouse over the title of a file, you’ll see:
- An image preview of that file
- The author of the file
- Who last updated it
- When it was last updated
- When it was last viewed
- Who owns the file
- Who has editing rights or if the file is "Read only"
To open the file, all you need to do is click on it. It will automatically open in a new tab where you can review it and then give the student feedback by adding a comment to the file.
You can also send the student feedback through an email. Student Tiles have a drop-down menu, which allows you to send students an email directly.
From the drop-down menu, you can also open the student’s class folder in Google Drive or edit their Teacher Dashboard groups. This saves you planning and instructional time because you can perform these actions directly from Teacher Dashboard.
How can I customize my view of Student Tiles?
First, you can change the order of Student Tiles by dragging and dropping them with your mouse.
Sometimes you may want to focus on certain students’ progress and bring their Student Tiles to the top of the screen. Or you may want to move Student Tiles around to match your seating chart, for example.
Search
The search bar allows you to look for files if you don’t see them on a Student Tile. You can search for a file by title or any of the content in the file. After you search, Student Tiles with those files will be shown on your screen.
There is also a white toolbar on the top right-hand side of your screen. It has features to help you personalize your view of Student Tiles.
Groups
The Groups feature allows you to both manage your groups and filter your Teacher Dashboard view to show only the Student Tiles for the specific group(s) you want. This feature helps you focus on a group’s progress and differentiate your formative feedback process.
Sort
The Sort menu allows you to rearrange Student Tiles alphabetically by first or last name. This is handy if you want to view learning progress in the same order as your class roster.
Size
You can also change the size of Student Tiles to compact, or switch back to the default size at any time.
Refresh
The refresh icon refreshes the Student Tiles so you can view student work and have the most accurate display of learning progress.
