Hāpara created Student Dashboard to help teach students the skills they need to take ownership of their digital learning. Instead of needing to switch between multiple apps, Student Dashboard streamlines learning into one easy-to-use dashboard.
This helps students manage their work, prioritize important communication and assignments and manage their time. They can also personalize their experience with Student Dashboard. Overall, this helps students develop important executive functioning skills and empowers them to make positive choices in their learning.
What is Student Dashboard?
Student Dashboard provides students with a central, mobile-friendly location to access assignments, resources, announcements and grades from Google Classroom, Google Workspace for Education and Hāpara. What do students see in Student Dashboard?
Student Dashboard presents students with an organized tool that’s simple for them to start using.
There are five main parts to Student Dashboard:
- My classes menu
- Workspaces (for schools that use Hāpara Workspace)
- To do
- My files
- Notifications
My classes menu
First, students can filter their view of Student Dashboard by class. This helps them better manage their work and notifications.
When students click the My classes menu at the top, they can select All my classes or a specific class.
That allows students to view Workspaces, assignments, files or notifications for all classes or individual classes (if they have more than one class).
Workspace
Workspaces are personalized, interactive digital assignments, lessons and units of study.
If your school uses Hāpara Workspace, students can click Workspaces on the left to see a list of all their assigned Workspaces.
When students click an assigned Workspace, that Workspace will automatically open.
To do
The To do section is a great way for students to practice their executive functioning skills and manage their assignments.
When students click To do on the left, they’ll see a list of all of their assignments from Google Classroom and Workspace.
Students can filter their assignments by clicking the following buttons at the top:
- All — shows students all of their assignments in one list
- Overdue — shows students their overdue assignments
- Due dates — shows students their assignments with upcoming due dates
- No due dates — shows students any assignments that don’t have due dates
This makes using Google Classroom more efficient because assignments don’t get buried and students can easily see assignments without due dates. Not only does this help students stay on top of their work, but it saves you and parents time because students can manage their own learning.
My files
Students no longer have to visit their Google Drive separately and dig through all of their files. Instead, My files in Student Dashboard gives students access to all of their files in one spot.
When students click My files they’ll see a list of their Google Drive files. This includes files that teachers and other students have shared with them.
Students can simply click on a file to open it in a new tab.
Students can also filter their list of files by clicking the following buttons at the top:
- Shared with me
- Recent files
Notifications
There is also a Notifications section in Student Dashboard. Instead of needing to switch back and forth between Google Classroom, Gmail and different assignments, students can see all of their class notifications in their Student Dashboard.
If students click the notifications icon, on the right-hand side of the page, their notifications will appear in a list.
The clickable list of communications include:
- Google Classroom announcements
- Alerts for assigned work from Workspace or Google Classroom
- Alerts about work that has been returned or graded
- Emails you’ve sent to their Gmail account.
The communications are listed by date, with the most recent first.
Students can click the menu at the top to filter the notifications.
Students can filter notifications related to:
- Announcements
- Assigned work
- Returned work
- Graded work
- Emails
How do students personalize Student Dashboard?
Students can personalize their Student Dashboard experience. With personalization, students feel more ownership over their learning.
To personalize their dashboard, students can:
- Click their avatar at the top of the page.
- Select a background color for their dashboard.
As discussed, students can also filter views by:
- Class
- Assignments by due date
