What is Clever?
Clever is a third party tool that can integrate many US based student information systems (SIS) with Hāpara.
How do I sync my SIS with Hāpara via Clever?
Before enabling the Clever + Hāpara integration, your district must meet specific data sharing and setup requirements to ensure rosters sync correctly.
Steps to Prepare for Clever Integration
1. Set up the Clever-Hāpara connection

In the Clever portal, search for Hāpara in the Applications tab (via https://clever.com/signup/hapara)

Click Add to begin the connection process.

Wait for approval from the Hāpara Support team after your request is submitted.
2. Share required data
To sync class rosters properly, you must share the following data via Clever:

Schools
-
Teachers
-
Students
-
Sections (Classes)
-
Enrolments (student-to-class relationships)
3. Follow Hāpara data formatting rules
Hāpara expects the following rules for smooth integration:

Each student must have a unique email address.

Teachers must have valid email addresses that match their Hāpara logins.

Section names should not contain special characters (e.g., &, %, $).

Avoid duplicate class names across different terms or schools.
-
Every class must include at least one student enrollment and one teacher assignment.
4. Let Hāpara know when ready
Once data sharing is complete in Clever:

Email support@hapara.com to notify the team.

Include your district name and Clever App ID (if available).

Hāpara will verify your data and activate the nightly sync.
Additional Tips

You can limit which schools or grades are shared in Clever—just ensure Hāpara is granted access to those selections.

Clever syncs run nightly, but changes may take 24–48 hours to appear.

Contact Clever Support if certain data fields (e.g., emails, classes) aren’t appearing.
