Deploying self-hosted Highlights extension Follow
NOTE: As of January 3, 2024 the Hāpara Highlights Chrome Web Store extension has been discontinued and will no longer function. Please only use the self-hosted extension after this date.
As of January 2023, Hāpara is now self-hosting the Highlights Chrome extension, rather than uploading it to the Chrome Web Store for downloads. This allows for faster updates and improvements, as well as the option to roll back any changes as required.
As part of this change, you will be required to remove the Highlights extension that is currently pushed out on your domain and reinstall the extension by following the steps below.
The following must be completed by a Google Super Administrator:
Removing the old Highlights extension:
- Login to your Google Admin Console
- Locate the Hāpara Highlights extension
- Select Devices from the left-hand menu column
- Click Chrome > Apps & extensions > Overview
- Type Highlights and press enter
- Click on the Hāpara Highlights Extension
- Click on the hyperlink of the OU that contains the Hāpara Highlights ExtensionThe old Highlights extension ID is: kbohafcopfpigkjdimdcdgenlhkmhbnc
- Click on the Hāpara Highlights Extension and click the trash icon, top right:
- A pop-up window will ask if you are sure you want to delete this application.
Click Delete.
If you have multiple student organizational units, please complete the same process for each OU to ensure the extension has been completely removed.
- Return to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers
- Select the next student OU from the listed organizational units menu. If you do not have OUs set up, click the top root level. (Note: the steps below should be repeated for each OU the Highlights extension is currently installed to.)
Installing the new Highlights extension:
Please follow the steps below to install the new self-hosted Highlights extension to your student organizational unit/s:
- Login to your Google Admin Console
- Select Devices from the left-hand menu column
- Click Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers
- Select a student OU from the listed organizational units menu. If you do not have OUs set up, click the top root level. (Note: the steps below should be repeated for each student OU you with to force install the Highlights extension to.)
- Locate the yellow icon: Add the Chrome app or extension by ID
- From the drop-down menu, select From a custom URL
- Add the custom URL and extension ID provided below and click 'Save.'
Extension ID: aceopacgaepdcelohobicpffbbejnfac
Custom URL: https://extension.hapara.com/extension/updates/studentdomainNOTE: take care when adding the custom URL, the URL must contain your student domain at the end, see example below:
Eg. https://extension.hapara.com/extension/updates/sunnyschool.com
- Set the extension to Force install + pin and then Save
If you have multiple student organizational units, please complete the same process for each student OU that is using Hāpara Highlights.
You can verify the new Highlights extension on a student Chrome Browser by the new extension icon:
