FAQ
Accessing Hall pass
- Sign in to Student Dashboard at app.hapara.com/student or via the Google waffle.
- Navigate to the left-hand menu.
- Select Hall pass.
This opens the Hall pass area, where you can create a new pass, check the status of a current pass, or look back at passes you have used before.
Create a Hall pass
- Select Hall pass.
- Choose one of your assigned classes.
- Select the location of pass you need.
- Submit the request.
After you submit your request, your teacher/s will be able to review it. Your pass will stay on screen so you can see whether it is still waiting, approved, or denied.
Note: Your school administrator may have set a daily pass limit, if you reach your limit you will not be able to request any more passes until the following day.
Wait for teacher approval
Once your request has been submitted, it will show as Pending until your teacher responds.
This means your request has been sent, but it is not active yet. You should stay in class and wait until your teacher approves the pass before leaving.
Auto-approved passes
Some Hall Passes do not require a teacher or Location Approver to approve them.
If a pass is configured for automatic approval, it will become active after you create it and the timer will begin.
Always check the status of your pass before leaving.
Use your approved pass
If your teacher approves the request, your Hall pass becomes active and the timer starts counting down.
While the pass is active, you can keep the Hall pass open to check how much time is left. This helps you return on time and makes it easier to manage your time while you are out of class.
End your pass when you return
- Return to class.
- Open your active Hall pass.
- Select End pass.
It is important to end your pass as soon as you return. This lets your teacher know that you are back and keeps your Hall pass record accurate.
Use Hall Pass at a kiosk
Your school may provide a shared Hall Pass kiosk.
At the kiosk:
- Follow the instructions shown on the device.
- Select an available Hall Pass option.
- Start your pass.
- Check the timer while you are away.
- When you return, use the kiosk to confirm that you are back.
Only Hall Pass options made available by your school will appear at the kiosk.
Hall Pass notifications
Hall Pass may send browser notifications about Hall Pass events.
If your browser asks whether Hall Pass can send notifications, select the option your school recommends.
Notifications do not replace checking the status of your Hall Pass before leaving class.
If your pass is denied
If your teacher denies your request, the pass will show as Denied.
You can close the denied request and remain in class. If you still need to leave, speak with your teacher first and follow your school’s normal classroom process.
History
To view pass request history:
- Open Hall pass.
- Go to History.
- Review your previous Hall passes.
Your history shows the passes you have created before and the status of each one. This can help you check whether a pass was approved, denied, ended correctly, or closed automatically.
FAQ
What does Pending mean?
Pending means your Hall pass request has been sent, but your teacher has not approved or denied it yet. You should wait until your teacher responds before leaving class.
What happens if I don't end the pass?
If you do not end your pass before the time runs out, it will close automatically. It will then be recorded as Did not return for your teacher and Hall pass administrators to see.
Why can't I create a pass?
There are several reasons a Hall Pass may not be available:
You have reached your school's daily pass limit.
The maximum number of students allowed to use that pass at the same time has been reached.
The pass is not available to your class.
The pass type or location has been deactivated.
Your school has temporarily paused new Hall Passes.
Student self-service has been disabled.
An Encounter Prevention rule prevents the pass from being created.
Can I request a Hall pass from more than one teacher?
No. Students can only create a Hall pass for one assigned teacher at a time.
Why is the pass I need not available?
Pass types are set up by your school’s Hall pass administrator. If you do not see the option you need, speak with your teacher or school administrator.
What should I do if my request stays on Pending?
Wait for your teacher to respond. If you need help right away, follow your school’s usual classroom process and speak with your teacher directly.
What if I chose the wrong teacher or pass type?
If the request has already been denied, you can close it and create a new one if needed. If it is still pending or has been approved, speak with your teacher for help.
Why is a location no longer showing?
Your school Hall pass administrator may have deactivated a pass location. There are many reasons that a location maybe deactivated eg. a toilet block out of order.
If you currently have an active pass for this pass location, it will be unaffected and will continue for the remainder of the pass.
