Who is allowed to chat?
Answer
In Hāpara Highlights Chat, only teachers can message their students, and students can message their teacher during instructional time. Students are NOT be able to chat with each other.

How do I know if my teacher is chatting with me?
Answer
To see a Chat message from your teacher, you will need to be signed into your Chromebook or Chrome browser with your school-issued Google account.
The Hāpara Highlights icon will show in the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser.
If you have a Chat message from your teacher, a number will show on the Hāpara Highlights icon. Click on that icon to see the message from your teacher.

How do I reply to my teacher?
Answer
Click on the Hāpara Highlights icon in the upper right corner of your Chrome browser. You will see a list of your teachers.
If a teacher sent you a Chat message, you will see a red circle with a number next to the teacher's name.
Click on your teacher's name to see the message.
Note: If they show as "Not available" you will not be able to reply to that teacher.
Type the message you would like to send your teacher and click the blue Send button at the bottom.

Can I send a Chat message to my teacher before I get a message from them?
Answer
Yes! However, your teacher must show as "Available."
Click on the Hāpara Highlights extension in the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser.
You must be signed in with your school-issued Google account.
This will bring up a list of your teachers. Click on the teacher that shows as "Available" and send your Chat message.

What if I don't see the Hāpara Highlights extension?
Answer
If you are using a Chromebook, it is best to restart your device to make sure it is up-to-date. On a Windows or Mac device, open the Chrome browser and make sure you are signed in and that "Sync Is On."
If neither of these troubleshooting steps solve the problem, please reach out to your teacher.
