Schools and districts decide how Hāpara is configured for students. Hāpara never sells student data and does not allow in-app purchases. Furthermore, Hāpara's browser monitoring tool for teachers, Hāpara Highlights is not spyware. Rather, it’s a school-managed browser extension that only works with a school account.
Does my child’s school or Hāpara select the settings in Hāpara?
Individual schools/districts choose the settings for how Hāpara is used. Hāpara provides recommended guidelines such as our ethical monitoring policy.
How is my child’s personal information protected?
Hāpara was founded by educators. Student privacy and safety are core to our work. We never sell student data. You can learn more about how we protect student information by visiting our privacy policy.
Does Hāpara allow in-app purchases?
No, Hāpara does not allow in-app purchases for students, teachers or any user.
Is Hāpara Highlights spyware?
No, Hāpara Highlights is not spyware.
Spyware secretly installs and secretly sends information. Highlights is different. It’s a school-installed browser extension that allows teachers see students’ classroom browsing when students use their school-issued account in the browser.
Hāpara Highlights does not function unless the student is signed into their school Chrome or Edge browser with their school account.
Schools generally filter/monitor student internet activity under their Acceptable Use Policies. Highlights surfaces that activity to teachers for instructional purposes.
