Hāpara pre-setup guide Follow
Welcome to Hāpara
To save you time and simplify your Hāpara rollout, please take a moment to complete the following steps to prepare for your setup session with a Hāpara Implementation Specialist.
G Suite settings
Log into your school domain Google Admin Console as the super administrator to configure the settings highlighted in the steps below (NOTE: Please don’t skip step 7. It’s easy to miss, but you won’t be able to move forward until you have your setup call):
1. Install Hāpara Teacher Dashboard
- Navigate to the Hāpara Marketplace app.
-
When Hāpara appears, click the blue 'Install' button.
-
A “Get ready to install” window will appear. Click “Continue.”
-
You will be asked to give Teacher Dashboard access to your domain’s data. After reading our terms of service, tick the checkbox and click “Accept.”
-
REMEMBER: If teacher and student accounts are in different G Suite domains, then you must do the steps listed above for each teacher and student domain.
-
Once installed, click into the app and check that data access is 'Granted’ (it will be in green text).
-
Once the app is enabled, it must be turned “On for everyone.”
2. Install Highlights extension
By deploying the Hāpara Highlights extension to an organizational unit (OU) in your Google domain, you can select a group of student users that will automatically inherit the extension in their browsers when the extension is force-installed. The Highlights extension will also be inherited automatically by any student users who are added to the organizational unit in the future.
The following must be performed while logged into your Google Admin Console as a super administrator.
-
Select 'Devices' from the left-hand menu column.
-
Click 'Apps & extensions'
-
Click 'Users & browsers'
-
Select your student OU/s from the listed organizational units menu.
-
Locate the yellow circle in the bottom right-hand corner of your window, hover over and click the Chrome web store icon.
-
To search for Hāpara Highlights, enter the ID kbohafcopfpigkjdimdcdgenlhkmhbnc into the ‘View by app ID’ search field in the Chrome Web Store and click + Select.
-
The extension will show in your list of extensions, change the installation policy to 'Force install.'
-
Click 'Save' in the top right-hand corner of the window.
3. URL allowed listings
We recommend that your school network technician complete this step.
Add the URLs listed HERE to the allowed listings for any firewall, antivirus or web content filtering software enabled on your teacher network to ensure Hāpara functions without issue. If you experience any connectivity issues from inside the school network which are not occurring outside the network while attempting to access Hāpara, it may indicate local network traffic filtering is in place.
4. Setup options for classes and students
Review this guide to determine what's right for your district.
5. Decide which data loading options are best suited for your school or district.
There are several different options for loading your data into Hāpara.
- Manual load through Google Sheets or .csv files
- Google Classroom sync (does not require preparing spreadsheets)
- Teacher-created classes (does not require preparing spreadsheets)
- Direct Power School sync (does not require preparing spreadsheets)
- Direct integration via Clever (does not require preparing spreadsheets)
- Direct integration via RIC One (does not require preparing spreadsheets)
- Direct integration via ClassLink (does not require preparing spreadsheets)
- cURL scripting
During your setup call, your chosen data loading option is implemented for your school or district.
Please note you will not have access to your Hāpara Admin Console until your setup call (see step 7 below).
6. Hāpara Admin Console: Instructional considerations
Hāpara has a number of settings that can be customized to meet the needs of your teachers and school/district. We want to make sure you understand that different settings can have an impact on classroom instruction.
Please review the different options before your setup call.
