Digital reader overview
The Hāpara Digital Backpack includes a responsive, accessible digital reader that is easy for students to use on any device and in any browser. Unlike traditional e-readers, the Digital Backpack reader does not require a specific app or hardware to operate.
With the Digital Backpack reader, you no longer need to worry about clunky PDFs or lost textbooks. Students have access to the materials they need for school from any internet-connected device.
Accessing the digital reader
Students can access the digital reader by clicking on any of the resources in the Backpack tab of their Student Dashboard.
Students are also able to open direct links to Digital Backpack resources that are shared in Google Classroom, Hāpara Workspace or the learning management system of your choice.
To access resources in the digital reader, students just need to sign in with their school-issued Google account.
Teachers can open resources in the digital reader via the My Resources, Library and Discover tabs or with a direct link. Teachers also need to be signed in with their school-issued Google account to open the reader.
Navigating the digital reader
The digital reader looks and works the same for teachers and students, so teachers always know what their students experience when they assign a resource.
Each chapter/section of a text is available on one page, so students don’t have to click through page by page. They can use the continuous scroll to see an entire chapter at once.
Most texts in the digital reader will have a cover image and table of contents on the left side. The table of contents can be used to navigate between chapters or sections.
Each chapter has a specific URL, so if you need to send someone to a specific section of the book, you can do so by copying and pasting the URL for that chapter.
The arrows on either side of the text also allow you to navigate between chapters.
The original PDF version of each chapter can be found at the bottom of the chapter. You can click on any of the pages to open it larger, and use the left and right arrows to navigate between pages.
The search bar at the top of the reader allows you to search for specific words and phrases within the text.
