What is the Our Library page?
The Digital Backpack Our Library tab gives you access to all types of resources that have been approved and/or created by your school or district and curated for your use.
The resources in this area have been vetted by your school/district and may include resources that are specific to your local curriculum or school initiatives.
Looking for something specific? The search bar allows you to search for resources by title, keyword or author.
You can also use the filters to narrow your search to find the most relevant materials.
If your school subscribes to the full Hāpara Suite, you may also find Workspaces in the Our Library tab. You can use the Formats drop down to narrow your view to just Resources or just Workspaces.
Your school or district’s digital resource manager(s) may have also organized the resources in this section into collections to help you find what you need.
What are collections?
Collections are the organization structure for the Our Library tab. The digital resource manager(s) for your school can set up custom collections that can contain any number of resources (and Workspaces, if your district subscribes to the full Hāpara learning suite). These could be collections of resources for a specific course, or resources that support a learning initiative in your school.
Resources can be in multiple collections at once.
You can find the collections that your digital resource manager(s) set up on the left side of the Our Library tab.
How can I preview a resource?
If you find a resource in Our Library that you think you would like to use with your class, you can click on the tile to open a preview.
This preview will give you more information about the resource including which subjects, grades and standards it can be used with, as well as the full resource description.
If you would like to review the material in the resource, you can click Open resource to view the resource in our digital reader. What you see in the reader is exactly what your students will see.
From the preview, you also have the options to share the resource to your class(es) or star it, to save it for your own use.
How can I save a resource for later?
If you find a resource in Our Library tab that you like but you are not ready to share it to your classes yet, or it is a teacher-facing resource that you would like to save for your own use, you can star the resource as a way to bookmark it.
This is a great way to start planning which materials you would like to share with your students, without making the resources visible to students right away.
You can star a resource from the resource tile by clicking the star on the right side.
You can also star a resource from the resource preview by clicking on Add to starred, under the title of the resource.
Starred resources will appear in the My Resources tab under Starred.
How can I share a resource to my class(es)?
If you find a resource in the Our Library tab that you are ready for your students to access, you can easily share it with just a few clicks.
You can share a resource directly from your search results by clicking Share on the resource tile.
If you use Google Classroom, clicking Share will bring up a list of your Google Classroom classes. You can tick the boxes next to the class(es) that you would like to have access to the resource, then click Save.
If you use the full Hāpara suite, clicking Share will bring up a list of your Hāpara classes, including any you have added using Google Classroom sync. You can tick the boxes next to the class(es) that you would like to have access to the resource, then click Save.
No matter how your classes are set up, students will now see the resource in their Student Dashboards in the Backpack tab. You will also now be able to find the resource in the My Resources tab when you click on any of the classes to which it has been shared.
To un-share a resource from a class, find the resource in the My Resources tab and click Share on the resource tile. This will open your class list modal, where you can edit which classes have access to the material by ticking or unticking the boxes next to the class name.
Can I add resources to Our Library?
The library is managed by the digital resource manager(s) for your school/district. Who is given this role will vary from district to district. It may be a library media specialist, a curriculum team, or a collection of technical administrators.
If you would like to see specific resources in your library that are not currently there, please reach out to whoever manages Hāpara for your district to find out who your digital resource managers are.
