What is the Discover page?
The Digital Backpack Discover page gives you access to hundreds of open-access, publicly available resources that you can assign to your students.
We’ve made it easy to browse through the resources available based on subject, resource type, standards-alignment and more.
Looking for something more specific? The search bar allows you to search for resources by title, keyword or author.
You can use the filters on the left side of the Discover page to narrow your search results and find the most relevant resources!
If your school subscribes to the full Hāpara suite, as well as Digital Backpack, you will also find publicly available Workspaces in this section. These lessons have been created and shared by teachers from around the world, so you can easily make a copy and use them with your class.
How can I preview a resource?
If you find a resource that you think you would like to use with your class, you can click on the tile to open a preview.
This preview will give you more information about the resource including which subjects, grades and standards it can be used with, as well as the full resource description.
If you would like to review the material in the resource, you can click Open resource to view the resource in our digital reader. What you see in the reader is exactly what your students will see.
From the preview, you also have the options to assign the resource to your class(es) or star it, to save it for your own use.
How can I save a resource for later?
If you find a resource in the Discover tab that you like but you are not ready to assign it to your classes yet, or it is a teacher-facing resource that you would like to save for your own use, you can star the resource as a way to bookmark it.
This is a great way to start planning which materials you would like to share with your students, without making the resources visible to students right away.
You can star a resource from the resource tile by clicking the star on the right side.
You can also star a resource from the resource preview by clicking on Add to starred, under the title of the resource.
Starred resources will appear in the My Resources tab under Starred.
How can I share a resource with my class(es)?
If you find a resource in the Discover tab that you are ready for your students to access, you can easily share it with just a few clicks.
You can share a resource directly from your search results by clicking Share on the resource tile.
If you use Google Classroom, clicking Share will bring up a list of your Google Classroom classes. You can tick the boxes next to the class(es) that you would like to have access to the resource, then click Save.
If you use the full Hāpara suite, clicking Share will bring up a list of your Hāpara classes, including any you have added using Google Classroom sync. You can tick the boxes next to the class(es) that you would like to have access to the resource, then click Save.
No matter how your classes are set up, students will now see the resource in their Student Dashboards. You will also now be able to find the resource in the My Resources tab when you click on any of the classes with which it has been shared.
To un-share a resource from a class, find the resource in the My Resources tab and click Share on the resource tile. This will open your class list, where you can edit which classes have access to the material by ticking or unticking the boxes next to the class name.
