Google update to Manifest V3 Follow
Google will soon implement Manifest V3 for devices using Chrome. This is a positive step that will improve the privacy, security and performance of Chrome extensions. The Hāpara Chrome extension will not be migrated to V3 until June 2025. In the interim, Hāpara customers need to enable Manifest V2 extensions in the Google Admin Console by June 1, 2024, to ensure that the existing Chrome Hāpara student extension continues to operate uninterrupted.

How will Manifest V3 migration affect Hāpara?
Steps to enable Manifest V2 extensions
What is Manifest V3?
Google Chrome extensions have been based on the Manifest V2 architecture for over a decade. In 2019, they announced that all extensions are required to migrate to Manifest V3 to improve privacy, security and performance. The Hāpara team was able to partner closely with Google to participate in extensive testing of the new version and provide feedback. As a result of this feedback from Hāpara and other extension developers, Google made a number of changes to Manifest V3 to address the functional gaps. In November 2023, the Google team completed the planned changes and announced a new timeline for migrating all extensions to MV3. Deprecation will begin in June 2024 and be complete in June 2025. Hāpara falls into the last group that will migrate by June 2025. Enabling the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy will ensure that your school will not be impacted by the rollout of the deprecation until that time.
How will Manifest V3 migration affect Hāpara?
We expect to have all Hāpara customers migrated to our new extension by June 2025 according to Google’s revised Manifest V3 timeline. We will continue to provide progress updates in our monthly communications to technical administrators. In the meantime, it is necessary to enable Manifest V2 extensions in your Google Admin Console to ensure uninterrupted access to the Chrome Highlights student extension.
